South Beloit voters oppose a fireplace ban Illinois Information

SOUTH BELOIT – South Beloit voters turned down a referendum poll to ban open burning of garden waste in the city.

During Tuesday’s election, 302 South Beloit voters voted no to the burning ban, while 78 voters approved the ban on open burning.

The city of South Beloit allows open incineration of garden waste twice a year – in the spring and in the fall. Proponents of the burn ban say the fires are causing health problems for people with breathing difficulties and creating a risk of fire.

Those opposed to the fire ban say that leaf burning in the city has been going on for years and has caused few problems.
