CHICAGO (AP) – A man was charged with the illegal use of a firearm by a felon in connection with a shootout that seriously injured a 21-month-old boy who drove with him in a car on Chicago’s famous Lake Shore Drive said Thursday.

Jushawn Brown, 43, of Chicago, shot another vehicle at around 11 am Tuesday “during a traffic incident” and was arrested later that day, police said the boy was shot dead in the temple.

It was not immediately known whether Brown had a lawyer to comment on.

No further arrests were reported. Chicago police spokeswoman Karie James said Thursday that police are still looking for the driver of the second vehicle, but they have not released any further information about the person.

The wounded boy was in Critical Condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Lurie Children’s Hospital Thursday, where he was on a ventilator and in medically-induced coma to protect his brain, said Dr. Marcelo Malakooti, ​​deputy chief physician and medical director of the hospital opened his pediatric intensive care unit.
