CHAMPAIGN – Illinois lost three games in a row to Notre Dame by a total of 15 points.
The Illinois will have a chance to turn the tide on November 29 when they host the Irish in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge at the State Farm Center. The matchup was announced on Monday and marks the 43rd meeting between the two schools, with the first game going back to a home win in Illinois in 1922.
In its last three showdowns, Illinois lost to Notre Dame 76-74 at Champaign in 2018, 84-79 at South Bend in 2015, and 68-60 in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2003.
As the Illinois tries to get back to the Victory Column, they will be without the first team’s former Consensus All-American point guard, Ayo Dosunmu, and the second team’s former Consensus All-American center, Kofi Cockburn, the both participated in the 2021 NBA draft.
Illinois will still have a strong backcourt, highlighted by second year Andre Curbelo and fifth year Guardian Trent Frazier, who along with Dosunmu and Cockburn helped the Illinois get their first Big Ten tournament championship since 2005 in the 2020-21 season to be won.
“Need this rematch (with Notre Dame) fasho,” Frazier tweeted on Monday.
Illinois holds an all-time record 9-13 in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge, defeating Duke 83-68 last year at the Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Illinois basketball uniforms over the years
Illinois basketball has been around since the early 1900s, but “Illinois” in all caps didn’t appear on uniforms until 1922. Numbers didn’t appear until 1935.
The Lou Henson era brought an interesting change in style: cursive. This was the uniform style from 1975-80.
