Illinois might quickly enable sports activities betting on state school groups

SPRINGFILED, Illinois (WREX) – You may soon be able to place a bet on your favorite Illinois college team.

Senate Act 521 was originally submitted by Chicago Senator Antonio Munoz (D) and passed through the House of Representatives last week and is currently awaiting Senate approval.

The bill would change previous laws and allow Illinoisans to play in state schools with some restrictions.

Bettors may only bet on team bets and not on individual performances. Bettors would also have to place their bets in person in a casino and not online via a sports betting app.

The bill was presented by agreement of the House of Representatives. If the Senate approves the bill, it would go to the governor’s desk.
