CHICAGO (AP) – The agency investigating the Chicago police shooting will release a body camera video of an officer fatally shooting a 13-year-old boy, first to the boy’s family and then to the public, an official said on Friday.

Ephraim Eaddy, a spokesman for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, told The Associated Press that it remains unclear when the Monday video of Adam Toledo’s death being shot will be released, but that it will be soon. He also said that although it is planned to be passed on to the family, it could be released soon after – even the same day.

Eaddy said Thursday that police were prohibited by law from posting the video of the shooting on Monday because the teenager was a minor. But on Friday, he said further analysis of the law had led the board to conclude it could release the footage.

The video was taken from an officer’s body camera who looked like it was at the location of the shooting, and although Eaddy refused to say if it was from the body camera of the officer who shot the teen, he said it was capturing the teen’s foot chase and the shooting itself.

The shooting took place on Monday at around 2 a.m. Police said officers were sent to an area in the Little Village neighborhood on the west side of the city after the department’s ShotSpotter technology detected the sound of gunshots nearby. When they arrived, Toledo and a 21 year old man ran away. Police said there was an “armed confrontation” during the teenage’s persecution in which the officer shot him once in the chest. He died on the scene. The 21-year-old man was arrested on charges of offense for resisting the arrest.
