200 Illinois Guard Troops will go to DC to help the inauguration

SPRINGFIELD – Governor JB Pritzker is sending approximately 200 members of the Illinois National Guard to Washington, DC to assist with security during the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden next week.

Pritzker announced Tuesday that the guards would travel to Washington before Biden’s inauguration on January 20 at the U.S. Capitol. A group of supporters of President Donald Trump stormed last week in an attempt to dismiss the presidential election results.

Pritzker said in a statement: “Following the recent Capitol incident, ensuring a peaceful transfer of power to the Biden government is of the utmost importance.”

The US Capitol was turned into a fortress of impeachment. Where visitors once went, hundreds of National Guard members camped across the Capitol and even the Rotunda to protect lawmakers from last week’s violence and prepare for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

Brian Mast, Florida representative, says, “It’s so sad how everything in this world can make me.”

In addition to showing signs of fear, there were also signs of gratitude for those protecting the Capitol. A tunnel leading to the house’s office buildings has become a makeshift tribute to the law enforcement agencies who protected the Capitol during last week’s riots.
